Road Trip: Judas Kiss to Phoenix

The Judas Kiss Phoenix Invitational Road Trip Challenge

Judas Kiss director J.T. Tepnapa travels to Phoenix, Ariz., for the film’s premiere — the first feature film from Blue Seraph Productions. Accompanying him on the road trip are co-producer Jody Wheeler, producer and crew member Charlie Brewer, and director’s production assistant David O’Neill.

It’s not quite The Hangover, but let’s just say they’re not quite welcome in Blythe, Calif., anymore.

The 5-min., 27-sec. video was shot and edited by Charlie Brewer after spending hours with those people on the road. God rest his soul.

Video: Behind the Scenes of Judas Kiss

Watch this video featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the Judas Kiss shoot this past summer. The video introduces the film’s principal cast and shows off talents of our wonderful crew, mostly Seattle-based.

The video was shot by our videographer, Matt Bucy, who also edited it together in record time for its premiere at the fundraiser we held at the end of August at The Lobby Bar in Seattle.

OTHER NEWS We wrapped production on September 4, and are well into post-production. The film is currently being edited, and preparations are well underway for sound design, visual effects, color correction, soundtrack, the score and other aspects of its completion.

Our post-production timeline is scheduled for about six months, which means we plan on the film being ready for exhibition at film festivals around the world starting in Spring 2011 (fingers crossed).

Brent Corrigan’s Reflections on Shooting ‘Judas Kiss’

Brent Corrigan’s (photo) most recent video blog is an incisive set of reflections of his experiences as part of the cast of Judas Kiss.

As I’ve touched base with many of the film’s cast and crew in the month since we wrapped principal photography, I’ve found most of us emerged different — some profoundly. I know for myself, I’m still figuring it all out. More on that later.

SciFi Site Visits the Set

Michael Hinman of the scifi website Airlock Alpha traveled to Seattle for a visit to the set of Judas Kiss, the new independent film currently in production from J.T. Tepnapa and Carlos Pedraza.

In his radio show, Alpha Waves Radio, Hinman features many of the people involved with the film, including Richard Harmon and Genevieve Buechner (Caprica), Timo DesCamps, Charlie David, Ron Boyd, Tim Foutch as well as J.T. himself.

The interviews, recorded while the film was being shot, offer an behind-the-scenes view of Judas Kiss.

Watch Our Kickstarter Funding Appeal

J.T. and I put together a special podcast/video as part of our Kickstarter.com appeal for $5,000 to pay for an upgrade to the camera package we want to use to shoot Judas Kiss. As of today, we have seven days to complete raising the money (or we lose all the pledges! Don’t let that happen!), and we’re very close, as you can see from the little Kickstarter banner on the right.

Michael Hinman welcomes J.T. Tepnapa and Carlos Pedraza to Alpha Waves Radio to talk about their new independent genre film “Judas Kiss,” which begins filming in Seattle this summer! The two have been involved in online fan productions of Star Trek in the past, and are on the verge of making their big break with this independent film. Carlos’ White Bean Chili Gumbo (from Tim of the Future)

Making a movie isn’t an easy task. And for Carlos, there are plenty of tasty meals between writing assignments and production schedules. A man needs to eat!

In our newest podcast, Tim of the Future, our intern boasted about all the cool new things happening with Judas Kiss, like the new Web site and the prospectus for new investors. But none could be more pleasing to Carlos’ tummy as the recipe to White Bean Chili Gumbo.

So here’s the recipe! Enjoy a bowl while watching our podcasts. Don’t forget to let us know what you think!

Carlos’ White Bean Chili Gumbo

Ingredients:
1 lb Chicken Andouille Sausage (Diced and grilled in olive oil)
1 cup chopped onion
1 can (or the equivalent) chicken broth
3 cloves of garlic, chopped finely
2 tsp Cumin seed (ground will not withstand long cooking as well)
1/2 tsp dried oregano leaves
2 -15oz cans white beans (great northern or cannellini), drained and rinsed
1 to 2 cups sliced okra (frozen if you can’t get it fresh)
1-2 cans of diced tomatoes (not whole tomatoes, you want to use the juice from can)
jalapeno chili peppers, fresh, jarred or canned, optional or ‘to taste’ (depending on how much heat you like!)

Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in slow-cooker and stir occasionally. (approx. 3-5 hours, depending on your schedule)
Top each serving with shredded Monterey jack cheese and or broken tortilla chips if desired.  Chili Gumbo is also great over rice.

I had no choice but to rename this podcast from “All About Judas Kiss,” to the new title “Tim the Intern goes Viral.”

Our New Production Office

Last month Carlos and I moved our office out of my apartment loft and into a cute little suite in Silver Lake.

Having an office that both Carlos and I can work from is the best thing that could have ever happened to us. Now we both have creative space to not only produce films, but also coach actors, write scripts, and provide space for other indie filmmakers.

Brent Corrigan Takes a Pretty Picture

SAN DIEGO — Last weekend Paul Lei and I came down here to take some photos of Brent Corrigan. Many of you may already know that Brent is on board to play one of the parts in Judas Kiss. He’s a true believer in the project and is helping us out with our promotional materials.

Paul Lei is a friend, contributor, and photographer for Judas Kiss. Although he started his career as engineer, he moved on to real estate in the late 90s. But his professional hobby is photography. He has taken my picture for more than 15 years. And he’s photographed countless other models and actors.

So we both headed down to San Diego with his lighting equipment and his happy little dog, Cosmo, sleeping in my lap.

WE SET UP basecamp at the San Diego Westin, a very nice hotel, but our room was a lot smaller than we expected. What made up for it was the view! Overlooking the ocean and a few tall buildings. It made the perfect backdrop for Brent.

Brent came in about 5:30, camera-ready. Which basically means, he came in looking beautiful as usual. We did about six wardrobe changes in various styles and shot for about two hours.

We also managed to sneak in a podcast with Brent. I hope to get that up by the end of the week.

Brent was very sweet and approachable as always. And we had a lovely evening at dinner. And we discussed an array of topics from politics to gay adoption.

And that was the end of our trip San Diego. It was just a quick in and out. I can’t thank both Paul and Brent enough for all that they have contributed to Judas Kiss. It’s a long road still to camera roll. But I feel like we took a step forward this weekend.

Not Just Friendly Banter – Catfight!

We are now getting at the heart of Judas Kiss. And nearing the completion of this draft. Hence the reason why we had a bit of a “tiff”. Like a married couple, basically it was from a lack of communication with each other. And of course we went to sleep angry. I was still annoyed by morning and Carlos was “cautious” around me.

But all is well again and were back at Silverlake Coffee… Page 73 of a now 101-page script. As much I get annoyed with Carlos, I still find him brilliant…Warped at times… a bit pedantic. But still brilliant. Sorta. Kinda.

Making a movie is probably one of most rewarding and challenging endeavours one can ever face. Some movies take years to make. And you will literarily put your blood, sweat, & tears into making ‘magic’ happen. After making five short films, I’ve learned three very important rules.

1. Respect everyone. It’s a great way to respect yourself.

2. Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. Plan ahead!

3. No movie can be made without the generosity of Producers.

And with that I’d like to thank our first three producers, Nicholas Oemcke, Bradley Gorder, and Ben Randall.

We have a long way to go before we are ready to shoot this picture. But with the help of benefactors and producers, we are well on our way. May we inspire you join us in making Judas Kiss a reality!
