Writer Frans P. Wollrabe visited the Blue Seraph Productions office in Los Angeles to talk about the film’s preparations and the recent visit to California by Timo Descamps. Timo is well known in Belgium and the Netherlands for his roles on stage and screen.

In the interview, Carlos and J.T. discuss how they met Timo, their casting of controversial adult performer Brent Corrigan, and the role of Charlie David, the star of the movie.

Michael Hinman welcomes J.T. Tepnapa and Carlos Pedraza to Alpha Waves Radio to talk about their new independent genre film “Judas Kiss,” which begins filming in Seattle this summer! The two have been involved in online fan productions of Star Trek in the past, and are on the verge of making their big break with this independent film. And stay tuned, as always, for the live call-in show Alpha Waves Rewind with your amazing host, Tony Tellado!

Richard appeared alongside Peter Weller (Buckaroo Banzai, Star Trek: Enterprise) in the April 15 episode, “White Tulip” (view on Fox.com).

Richard has appeared in a growing list of genre television shows and features, including the Syfy hit, Caprica, the CW’s Smallville, the Web series Riese, the feature Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, SciFi Channel’s Flash Gordon and others.

We signed him last month to star in Judas Kiss in the lead role of Danny Reyes. Richard is currently filming the first season of Cartoon Network’s new live-action series, Tower Prep.

If you have been keeping up with our tweets and blog posts, you probably already know we just had a super-secret Judas Kiss mission go off without a hitch. In the next few days, we are going to be able to tell you all about it.

The not-so-secret part of our Judas Kiss mission is that we’ll be finishing up our Seattle-Tacoma location scouting, make a Canadian visit up to our co-production partners, Border2Border Entertainment, and start coordinating local auditions to fill out the remaining roles in Judas Kiss. And all the while taking care of our early investors and enticing new investors onboard to what is now looking like a very successful film. And if we have our way, not only critically successful, but also financially successful.

Somebody pinch me. Just to make sure it isn’t all a dream. ::ouch:: It’s real, yo.

Created by Mike Feurstein of New York-based MovieQuest Productions and co-produced by Blue Seraph’s partner company, Runic Films, eScape tells the story of a group of campers seemingly abandoned by their counselors. They soon discover they are trapped in a video game that grants them amazing abilities. But in the real world, this game is the object of a power struggle between powerful corporations and mysterious military interests.

Judas Kiss producers Carlos and J.T. are both attached to this project.

The first three seasons of eScape will premiere on the Web this summer on its Web site, www.eScapeTheSeries.com. A trailer and a preview of the show are available on the site now.

“The show tells a great story in the same vein as Lost,” said Feurstein. “Young and older viewers alike connect with its characters’ struggles to make the right life choices in the face of adventure, danger and unimaginable odds.”

eScape’s third season is currently in production in and around Albany, N.Y., starring local actors and school children. The students also worked behind the scenes to help produce the series.

“Wide release of eScape this summer will introduce viewers to the space- and time-bending world of the show,” said Runic Films producer Ben Alpi. “It’s a world we plan to continue to explore.”

eScape is the latest project from Runic Films, which comprises the creative team behind the Web series Star Trek: Phase II, winner of TV Guide’s Online Video Award for Science Fiction, and nominee for the Hugo and Nebula awards — science fiction’s highest honors.

Feurstein and his young filmmakers have produced movies that have won gold medals in New York state competitions and top prizes in regional film contests. Feurstein himself earned Best Local Filmmaker kudos in readers’ polls from the Albany, N.Y., Times Union, and the Metroland newsweekly. He has also produced an international educational DVD series on autism, contributed to the blockbuster award-winning Guitar Hero video game and owns Cucumber Alley, a film lighting rental company.

“Ben, Carlos and the rest of the Runic guys came aboard to help make the third season of eScape the best yet,” Feurstein said, “and its release on the Web is an exceptional showcase for the cast and crew.”

In our newest podcast, Tim of the Future, our intern boasted about all the cool new things happening with Judas Kiss, like the new Web site and the prospectus for new investors. But none could be more pleasing to Carlos’ tummy as the recipe to White Bean Chili Gumbo.

Carlos’ White Bean Chili Gumbo

Ingredients:
1 lb Chicken Andouille Sausage (Diced and grilled in olive oil)
1 cup chopped onion
1 can (or the equivalent) chicken broth
3 cloves of garlic, chopped finely
2 tsp Cumin seed (ground will not withstand long cooking as well)
1/2 tsp dried oregano leaves
2 -15oz cans white beans (great northern or cannellini), drained and rinsed
1 to 2 cups sliced okra (frozen if you can’t get it fresh)
1-2 cans of diced tomatoes (not whole tomatoes, you want to use the juice from can)
jalapeno chili peppers, fresh, jarred or canned, optional or ‘to taste’ (depending on how much heat you like!)

Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in slow-cooker and stir occasionally. (approx. 3-5 hours, depending on your schedule)
Top each serving with shredded Monterey jack cheese and or broken tortilla chips if desired.
 Chili Gumbo is also great over rice.

Carlos co-authored the screenplay with noted scifi author David Gerrold (“The Trouble with Tribbles”), who also directed the episode.

TrekMovie.com hailed “Blood and Fire, Part 2″ as:

An emotional yet exciting story, complete with the excellent production values and effects that we have come to expect from the Phase II team.

The past year also attracted kudos for Carlos’ work from Joss Whedon, who told Rolling Stone that the Phase II episode, “World Enough and Time,” which Carlos co-executive produced, inspired Whedon to create the Internet phenomenon Dr. Horrible’s Singalong Blog.

Rolling Stone, by the way, named Phase II, among its five must-watch Web series.

“Blood and Fire” is based on a script Gerrold originally wrote for Star Trek: The Next Generation in the 1990s. It was never produced because its passing reference to a male couple aboard the Enterprise was considered too controversial by the producers.

Carlos adapted the script for the original Trek series-based Phase II, expanding the story to include Captain Kirk’s nephew Peter as one part of the male couple. Interestingly, two decades later, that portrayal proved controversial when “Blood and Fire, Part 1″ debuted a year ago.

Fortunately, Part 2’s release this past November was greeted by far fewer objections.

“Blood and Fire” was shot by Judas Kiss‘s director of photography Dave Berry and second-unit director Ben Alpi, of our partner company Runic Films, with visual effects by Joël Bellucci.

SOMETIMES IT’S EASY

In the chaotic world of filmmaking, I’d say it’s much better to help each other succeed. The more you help one another, the more you can rise together instead of bringing each other down like crabs in a bucket.

For more than three years, Carlos and I have been collaborating on Judas Kiss. We are opposite sides of the same coin but we have worked together for so long it’s impossible to imagine this project without him. He has single-handedly built and rebuilt our websites, written and re-written our script, and has been a cheerleader on the days I had little to cheer about.

A year after we started out, we began working with Jody Wheeler at DoorQ Entertainment. Since then we’ve helped each other grow as companies with next to no funding. Yet surprisingly, without DoorQ.com, we may have never met our Judas Kiss star.

About six months ago, I get an email from a Charlie David who was interested in learning more about our project. What I didn’t connect right away was that Doorq.com was the connection between Charlie’s TV series and our project.

It was a great contact. Charlie David of “Dante’s Cove” and the Logo TV series “Bump!” I knew this man! And he was contacting us!

At first we discussed the possibilities of his production company, Border2Border Entertainment handling our overseas sales and distribution. Charlie is as much an accomplished businessman as he is an actor. Carlos took the high-speed ferry from Seattle to Victoria, British Columbia, to meet Charlie and his business partner, Linda Carter. Their initial conversation about sales became even more exciting when Charlie expressed interest in the lead role. What!? Really!?

A WEEK LATER, Carlos and I were in Canada having brunch with Charlie and Linda — a four-hour brunch. Of course Charlie was gracious and kind. And there is this sparkle in his eyes when he looks at you. Like his eyes hold something mysterious underneath the surface. It’s a secret every good actor never reveals. It’s something that makes him perfect for the role of Zachary Wells.

Today, we not only have the multi-talented Charlie David, but we also have his company Border2Border as co-producers of “Judas Kiss”. There is so much more to come for this project.

I learned the Universe was never conspiring against us; it’s always ready to help. We just have to listen and seize every opportunity. When you stop and look around, it’s just a lot of family, friends, and fans wishing us lots of success. So hang on! The party is just getting started.

David will play the role of Zachary Wells, a washed-up filmmaker who returns to his peculiar alma mater, where he meets his younger self and gets the chance to change his troubled past so he can avoid a disturbing future.

“Judas Kiss” is the first feature film from director J.T. Tepnapa, who has won many international awards for his short films, including the multiple award-winning parody of 1950s teen health films, “Masturbation: Putting the Fun Into Self-Loving,” the comedy “Drag Queen Heist” and the drama about homeless youth, “Begging for Change.”

“I’m excited to work with such a multi-talented entertainer,” Tepnapa said. “Charlie’s experience in front of and behind the camera will add so much to “Judas Kiss’” production values.” For his part, David was attracted to the screenplay’s time-bending drama.

“I was engaged by ‘Judas Kiss” concept of altering the past and future through the choices we make right now,” he said. “Who hasn’t wondered what lies down the paths not taken in career, adventure and love?”

PLAYING ZACHARY WELLS David was also intrigued by the character of Zach. “It’s exciting and scary for me because he has such a troubled past and a present devoid of feeling and passion,” he said. “The script has emotional triggers for me – some that immediately resonated and others that honestly terrified me. Zach is going to allow me to get a little messy as an actor and it’s about time I did that.”

David also joins “Judas Kiss” as an executive producer with his production company, Border2Border Entertainment, which will also act as “Judas Kiss’” sales and distribution representative. “I am very excited to be joining this project as an actor and producer,” he said. “I love the art of telling a good story and Judas Kiss is a really good story. I’m confident our connections at Border2Border Entertainment with international distributors, broadcasters and new media ventures will help Judas Kiss find a large and lasting audience.”

“Judas Kiss” is being produced by Blue Seraph Productions, a Los Angeles company founded by Tepnapa in 2000 to create his short films. “Judas Kiss” was written by Blue Seraph partner Carlos Pedraza from Tepnapa’s story. The film is scheduled to shoot in 2010 in Seattle.Tepnapa’s and Pedraza’s work has been featured in the New York Times, BBC, Variety, Frontiers, Fab magazine, the Today Show, MSNBC, and other international news outlets.

The film has already attracted attention for casting talented and controversial adult film star Brent Corrigan, who recently appeared in this year’s Oscar-winning “Milk” and the comedy “Another Gay Movie.”

BOX OFFICE PHENOM David is also a gay box office phenomenon. His steamy supernatural soap opera, “Dante’s Cove,” is the No. 1 show for the here! television network in the United States, and the series’ DVD sales continue to be a genre leader worldwide. He also stars in the travel series Bump!, now in its fourth season, airing in more than 12 countries, with more than 50 million households in the United States alone on MTV’s sister station, Logo.

David has had three features released in the past two years: “A Four Letter Word,” “Kiss the Bride,” and “Mulligans.” David also wrote and produced the award-winning Mulligans, which has played at more than 65 international film festivals and garnered worldwide distribution.

David’s first two novels, the film novelization “Mulligans,” and “Boy Midflight,” were published in 2009. Among his many awards are the Out 100 Award (2005); Rising Star Award, Philadelphia Film Society (2007); and Best Male Actor, Festival del Sol Gran Canaria, Spain (2008).

David’s show business career began with the pop band, 4Now, and includes hosting stints on television shows on E!, NBC, Fine Living, and other networks. David’s move from his native Canada to Hollywood generated even more opportunities, including roles in Showtime’s outrageous musical, “Reefer Madness,” ABC’s “Ugly Betty” and the Sundance Channel’s award-winning series, “Terminal City.”

We are finished with our third draft of Judas Kiss. Carlos and I are very happy with this version. We’ve made many structural changes creating a stronger and more dynamic story.

As of yesterday, we have sent copies to all our current producers, cast and crew, and some potential producers and distributors. We even submitted to several screenwriting competitions.

We’re moving along and it looks like it’s going to be a very exciting year for Judas Kiss. Enjoy the ride!

Above is one of the universities we scouted up in the Seattle area. This little campus is my favorite. There is a cozy feel to this one.

OUR NEXT STOP was Port Henry, N.Y., where I reprised my role as Lt. Cmdr. Sulu in the Webseries production of Star Trek: Phase II; Carlos was 1st assistant director. We shot most of the episode and have very few pickups to worry about. All in all, it was a great shoot at a beautiful time of year. Autumn is the most wonderful time of year to be in upstate New York.

But now, I’m back home ready to get back to working on Judas Kiss preproduction A quick thank you, Mark Painter for contributing at the Executive Producer Level. It’s a long road, but I appreciate each and every one of our friends and fans who moves Judas Kiss closer to production.
