Best Feature Debut: ‘Judas Kiss’ Wins at Q Cinema

FORT WORTH, Texas — Judas Kiss director J.T. Tepnapa won the prestigious Shawn A. Moore Award for Best Feature Debut at the 13th Q Cinema festival here Sunday at an awards ceremony following the film’s screening at the Rose Marine Theater.

Awards at the festival are chosen based on program committee panel reviews or audience ratings. The Moore prize is named after one of Q Cinema’s co-founders, and includes a cash award to support filmmakers’ continuing creative work.

Since Judas Kiss had the coveted closing spot in the festival lineup, Tepnapa was on hand to accept the award, along with star and executive producer Charlie David (whose film, Mulligans, won Best Gay Film and the Dallas Voice Audience Award at Q Cinema three years ago) and executive producer Steve Parker.

Tepnapa’s previous films, Drag Queen Heist and Begging for Change, screened at Q Cinema in 2004 and 2006, respectively, each taking Best Short honors. Judas Kiss is the director’s first feature-length effort.
